Board Games Evenings

Updated: Aug 9, 2018

In Liverpool Board Gaming scene is quite big. On meetups you can find a lot of groups which are playing games regularly on weekly basis or twice per month.

Kensington Community Learning Centre has monthly board games evening open to all, every second Tuesday of the month. A great, friendly evening of fun and games. Doors open at 4pm and the die hards go on through the evening winding up around midnight. Feel free to come and join us for a couple of hours or all evening. Everyone is welcome and there are always people to teach games to new players. Huge selection of games available so there is something to suit everyone! Tea, coffee and snacks are included in the cover charge of £4 (£3 concessions) but feel free to bring your own food and drinks if you like or there are lots of local takeaways if you prefer something more substantial.

'Liverpool Lion' Boardgames, this group meet up once a week on Monday from 6pm. Regular meet up place is JustPlay Games. They play a wide range of modern boardgames like Terraforming Mars, Battlestar Galactica, Outpost, Small World, Agricola, Dominion, Avalon, Lords of Waterdeep, Terra Mystica and many of the other high-rated multi-player games.

Meetings are completely informal without any membership or fees. However, they would ask that you please buy drinks and snacks in the venue and consider buying games through JustPlay also. Meetings start about 6pm, players arrive as they are able and we start with short games until about 7pm to allow everyone time to get there, then we play our main games for the night until closing time at 11pm.

'Weekly Thursday Game Night' meetups group. They meet at the Cross Keys on Earle Street, in the upstairs function room from around 6pm. It starts with some lighter games as people gather. Games played at recent meetups include: 7 Wonders, Secret Hitler, Coup, Terraforming Mars, Castles of Burgundy, Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan, Agricola, Isle of Skye, Takenoko and Codenames (on average they play lighter games than the Monday group).

Upstairs function room for free, under the agreement that we look after it and purchase a reasonable amount of food and/or drinks.

Everyone is welcome!

Board Game Club at 'Forbidden Planet' meetups group. They meet up weekly on Saturday in Forbidden Planet Shop. Modern Board games, mainly bring your own game, but there is a small library of games available. Friendly group of people, just ask a member of staff where to find the board games group. Although Forbidden Planet started this group, it's more of a hobbyists group than a store provided service (i.e. its the group members that tend to organise, bring, and teach games - there are no dedicated in store 'game gurus' who are there to facilitate your visit). They also have a WhatsApp group that predates this Meet Up event, so the number of people attending on here won't necessarily reflect how many people are at the club.
